Owner José Galeano came to Calgary, Alberta in 1972 from Salamanca, Spain. After working in various fine dining establishments as a Chef, he became aware of the limited amount of good quality ethnic restaurants in Calgary at that time. The opportunity was ripe to introduce the first Spanish Restaurant with various foods and wines from Spain. An idea was born. A new taste experience was in the works. With a lot of hard work and dedication, the idea became a reality in 1980 with the opening of the original Don Quijote on Kensington Road.
After years of operation, a decision was made to relocate to our current location at 309 – 2nd Avenue SW. Before relocating, José realized that Calgary was in need of not only the offerings of fine Spanish cuisine but also Hispanic entertainment and dancing. A combination of the two now make up a unique and complete dining experience.
Don Quijote Restaurant and Tapas Bar is Calgary’s #1 Dine and Dance destination with a Spanish Flair.
